Deep within the mesmerizing rolling fields, resided a boy named Shepherd. His being was unadulterated, and unsophisticated. His only responsibility was mainly to tend to his herd of ewes.
Their low murmuring and the murmuring of the gales through the single tree on the peak were his only associates. Day in day, guarding his charges inculcated in him a sense of tranquil contentment.
But, there were at times moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would pine for company. In one such instance because of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy devised a mischievous plot.
Narratives of predators prowling on sheep had been heard times and again in the village. So, the boy decided to leveraged this fear and played a prank on the inhabitants.
One morning he raced into the village screaming “Wolf! There is a wolf preying on my sheep!” The terrified villagers sprinted up the hills for rescue but discovered no beast.
The boy chuckled at the dilemma on their faces. This game laughed for a couple of more days. check here But, one noon, a real wolf actually come to prey the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy ran for help, shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.
Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his sheep. Devastated, he went back to the town only to receive a scolding on honesty and the results of false alarms.
His tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the value of honesty, the consequences of lying and the risks of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights how trust once broken, is tough to earn back. It's a story as appropriate today as it was anciently.
